Tuesday, Oct. 13 David M. Nieves, herpetologist and author of Reptiles Up Close and More Reptiles Up Close, (www.reptilesupclose.net) came to Denver to share with the kids how his love of reptiles helped him become a writer.  He explained to the children that in writing a book about the wonderful reptiles he was finding across the globe enabled him to share/communicate this passion with the children across the globe.  He spoke to the 6 traits of writing:  Organization, Ideas, Sentence Fluency, Word Choice, Voice, and Conventions

Here are some video links to the presentation we saw:

**Having troubles with viewing the video links??  You aren't the only one!  First, try to pull up the videos using the application "QUICK TIME".  This seems to work better for Mac users, although I did have success on a PC using Media Player.

Friday, Sept. 18 the second graders visited the Cattle Congress in Waterloo.  They learned about cows, swine, poultry and all the different products that come from these animals.  The kids also got to see different farm animals up close and even allowed to pet several.  Check out these great videos showcasing what a wonderful day we had!
